Nonprofit Champion: Anne from Abode Contemplative Care for the Dying
Abode Contemplative Care for the Dying is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide a welcoming, peaceful, and comfortable home around-the-clock for those who are in need at the end of life, at no cost to the guest.
On May 4, 2017, Abode, along with 647 other nonprofits, participated in the annual Giving Day celebration for South Central Texas, #BigGive2017.
Anne Ledet
, Development Director for Abode, shared some background on her organization:
“Abode is a bridge for people at end of life who need a safe and caring space to go through the labor of death. Abode works with each guest’s hospice provider assisting with companionship, sustenance, and care to cultivate a dignified transition. Working with guests and their friends to facilitate awareness of the stages at end of life and watch as the soul and physical self unwind is a tremendous honor. We get to know the guest, learn about their history, and be present to their needs during each unique journey. The opportunity to work in such an extraordinary environment is its own reward.”
Giving Day Strategy
The Abode team utilized networking and education about the Big Give through social media and emails to the clients they serve along with friends of their organization. They also asked their contacts to reach out to their friends for additional support.
Anne attributed much of their success to the fact that there was a Giving Day committee working on nothing but the Big Give.
For the giving event, Abode fully customized their giving profile with a background story, compelling photos, giving levels, and a video.

Giving Day Results
Abode ranked number seven on the Big Give 2017 Leaderboards for Amount Raised for the day with over $78,000 donated by 200 donors.
“We not only succeeded our financial goal, but were introduced to many other new donors and received media attention for our success.”
