Canisius College Celebrates Second Annual Giving Day
On April 26th, Canisius College celebrated their second annual Giving Day, Canisius Giving Day 2017.
This day was established to “inspire Griffs to come together, show their pride in alma mater, and provide essential funding to support students and shape the college. This annual event shines a spotlight on giving at Canisius and creates a sense of energy around philanthropy.”
Last year, they had more than doubled their goal of reaching 423 donors in 24 hours with over 1,000 who contributed. This year, they set a goal of 2001 donors in 24 hours – in honor of the college’s address, 2001 Main Street.
Giving Day Results
Over 1,900 Griffs supported Canisius and their favorite programs at the college reaching over $340,000!
A message from the college:
“Your generosity produced an increase of $113,000 over last year’s total dollars raised, and an increase in the number of donors by 806.”
Several challenges were unlocked, including $24,000 from the Board of Trustees and $20,000 in support of women’s rowing. The Contemporary Writer’s Series, Women’s Rowing, and the Classes of 1977 and 2014 topped the Leaderboards.

Congratulations to Contemporary Writers Series for topping the Leaderboards with the Most Raised and Most Donors in 24 hours!

Challenges were available throughout the Giving Day to help motivate various departments in their outreach efforts and to inspire their supporters to give and spread the word on social media.
One of the more popular challenges of the day, The Griffin Selfie Challenge, challenged 250 Canisius students or “Griffs” to post a selfie of themselves with the Griffin statue. Because this challenge was met, the people who set forth this challenge collectively donated $5,000 toward student scholarships and programs.

Although Canisius College fell shy of their initial goal of 2001 donors, they raised over $100,000 more in donations from last year, which means more students and programs gained added support.
Canisius said that they could, and together they did – Again!
From all of us at GiveGab, we want to congratulate Canisius on the success of their second Giving Day!
