3 Steps to Better Social Media Engagement That Costs You Nothing
As a nonprofit administrator, you probably hear about the importance of utilizing social media tools pretty often – and we agree!
Social media is a powerful tool, that when used correctly, can help you expand your reach and connect with your supporters in ways you never could before.
But did you know that just by adding an image to your posts, you can increase engagement with your supporters, making your messages more impactful?
By adding an image to your Facebook you’re likely to see 2.3 times more engagement than you would without one!
Using an image on Twitter can increase your number of retweets by 150%!
Overall, visual content is 40 times more likely to be shared on social media than posts without, which is why creating great social share images for your organization could be the difference between 10 donors and 100 donors!
And the best part? You can do it all for FREE!
Check out the steps below to learn how:
Step 1: Find Some Great Photos!
Photos of your mission in action or the communities you serve can have a powerful impact on social media, but we know that not every organization has access to a ton of photos, especially if your mission focuses on more private issues.
If this is the case, don’t fret! There are thousands of free stock photos you can use to enhance your social media posts without feeling disconnected from your mission. You can search for photos of people, elements in nature, communities, and so much more to find the perfect content to share on social media.

Step 2: Customize Them
Sharing just a stock photo might not be the best way to engage with supporters on social media, but adding your own spin to them not only makes them more personal, but more likely to be shared! Not every image you share has to be tied to an important update about your organization.
Using free tools like Canva and PicMonkey, you can add different design elements and text to your photos and make them feel more personal. Add a quote that’s relevant to your mission or a fact about your organization so that the content will stand out to your supporters and they’ll be more likely to pay attention.

Posting about 2-3 of these images a week will keep your organization relevant to your supporters and make it easier for them to remember why they care about your cause.
Step 3: Share Them
Once you’ve got your image all set, it’s time to get it out there. We believe that when you create something once, you should post it everywhere to get the most out of your content – so make sure to share your updates on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so that your reach is greater, with less work!
And if you’ve got a really great image, don’t be afraid to break up a bulky email with it so your supporters can continue to connect with you no matter how they’re doing it.
