Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes Holds Successful Walkathon and 5K

On October 22nd, 2016, the Cancer Resource Center (CRC) of the Finger Lakes held their Walkathon and 5K, a fundraising event to provide continued support to people living with and affected by cancer.

Walkathon and 5K

Over 850 people showed up to walk or run for this event, despite unpleasant weather conditions.  With the help of these amazing supporters and over 2,100 donors, the CRC surpassed their fundraising goal by raising over $160,000!

This event had several fundraisers and fundraising teams that helped increase the CRC’s outreach and incoming donations.  You can learn more about this form of fundraising by reading the article, Peer to Peer Fundraising:  Where to Begin.

Walkathon and 5K
Bob Riter, Executive Director, and Jyl Dowd, Development Coordinator, shared their thoughts about the event:

This year’s Walkathon and 5K Run in support of the Cancer Resource Center was a huge success in spite of it being held on the wettest weekend of the season.  What was most surprising – and gratifying – was that nearly everyone showed up.

The rain deterred neither our volunteers nor the participants.  Several people said words to the effect of, “I made it a point to come here in spite of the weather because I support what you do for our community.”

We use the GiveGab platform for event registration and donations, and we truly feel that the GiveGab staff works with us as true partners in making the event such a success.

Among the platform’s many other functionalities, GiveGab makes it easy to create a fundraising event campaign, manage registrants, and fundraisers, and enter in offline donations (gifts made via cash or check) to contribute to the campaign totals.  To learn more about launching your own fundraising event on GiveGab, read 7 Benefits of Hosting a Fundraising Event on GiveGab.

What’s Next for the CRC
