Grow Your Giving Day by 20% With P2P Fundraising

As a Director of Civic Engagement here at GiveGab, it is my passion to offer guidance and advice to fundraising professionals evaluating Giving Day platforms for their future events. Whether an organization is brand new to hosting a Giving Day or has an established presence, their focus remains the same – to generate as much engagement as possible in a concentrated amount of time.

The most common questions that I am asked during my Giving Day demos are:

  1. Does GiveGab have an easy and effective donation flow?
  2. Are nonprofits easily able to showcase their mission and efforts?
  3. Do you provide features that keep people coming back throughout the day such as leaderboards, social media aggregators, and live stream tools?
  4. Is the platform stable and secure for donors?

(By the way, the answer to all these questions is a resounding YES! )

While these are all extremely important aspects that should be examined closely, at GiveGab, those are just the baseline. We help our partners take their Giving Days to the next level by offering tools that are proven to expand their donor base and generate more engagement and awareness for their participating nonprofits.

Our most overlooked, yet most powerful, tool to expand your Giving Day reach is our Peer-to-Peer (P2P) fundraising.

You may be familiar with P2P fundraising as it’s often used for smaller campaigns such as marathons or hackathons. This new strategy of fundraising has become increasingly popular as nonprofits continue to see significant success in growing their donor base.

However, it’s not a feature that our Engagement team is often asked about by Giving Day hosts during their initial conversations and demos. We are extremely proud of the effectiveness of our P2P fundraising tools. It is my hope that I can continue to inform future GiveGab partners on how they can reach new donors and grow their Giving Day by 20% with Peer-to-Peer fundraising.

What is Peer-to-Peer Fundraising?

Peer-to-Peer fundraising allows the supporters of your participating nonprofits to fundraise on their behalf by creating a “mini-campaign” that champions their cause.

With GiveGab, P2P fundraisers create their own personal fundraising page tied to your Giving Day where they can set their own fundraising goals, share their personal stories, and thank their donors. There are built-in features that allow the fundraisers to easily share their page on social media and directly with friends, family, and colleagues!

These Fundraisers play an important role in growing your Giving Day because they are able to reach donors that might not have otherwise given to this initiative. They may be hearing about this organization and your Giving Day for the first time and are eager to give after seeing their peer so passionate to rally support around your cause.

By giving new donors the opportunity to learn more about your Giving Day and the nonprofits it supports, they will be more likely to give again. P2P fundraising is a great tool to increase your Giving Day’s overall brand recognition by allowing donors to showcase the causes they are most passionate about.

How Effective is Peer-to-Peer Fundraising?

What we have heard countless times from our Giving Day partners, and their participants, is how amazed they are by the growth they experienced from implementing P2P Fundraising. Our data spanning the past six years remains consistent: P2P Fundraisers bring in a substantial amount of new donors!

On average, a Peer-to-Peer fundraiser brings in 4 new donors for its organization.

Tiffany Bloss, Director of the Schuyler Health Foundation, shared her experience using Peer-to-Peer Fundraising to rally more awareness and support during Cayuga Giving Day: “Utilizing Peer-to-Peer Fundraising for our Giving Day not only allowed us to engage key stakeholders such as our Board of Directors, Physicians, and Hospital Staff, it allowed us to greatly expand the reach of our cause far beyond expectations. Our mission came directly from those who care the most – those having a personal and direct interest in our success.“

Getting Into the Data

After hearing success stories like Cayuga Giving Day’s, we took a deeper dive into our most recent Giving Day data surrounding Peer-to-Peer Fundraising.

We understand that no two Giving Days are exactly alike. To ensure we are able to provide stats that are relevant to varying types of Giving Days, we broke up the data by size.

  • Small – raising $250k or less,
  • Medium – raising between $250k-$1M
  • Large – raising over $1M

When beginning to use Peer-to-Peer Fundraising as part of your Giving Day strategy, the data proves that it’s okay to start small. While incredibly effective, you must get a lot of buy-in from your nonprofits and supporters, which means more time and effort on their end. The data shows that as Giving Days grow, its nonprofits become more confident in taking on more features that will expand their impact, and have a better understanding of how to set up Fundraisers for success.

Total Dollars Raised

P2P Fundraisers contribute a significant amount to a Giving Day’s total efforts. These are funds that might not have been given during your event if the donors were not solicited by someone in their network. On average, Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers brought in 20% of a Giving Day’s Total Dollars Raised.

Imagine the impact a 20% increase in donations would have for the nonprofits in your community!. With over $287k brought in by Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers for large Giving Days, your event can grow substantially year-over-year as nonprofits continue to leverage this functionality.

New Donors

Giving Days that implement Peer-to-Peer Fundraising significantly expand their donor base by 30.8% on average. Since P2P Fundraising allows supporters to make personal asks, they are able to bring in new donors who have not given before.

This is an incredible opportunity for your participating organizations to foster new relationships with donors and transform them into repeat supporters.

GiveGab’s easy-to-use and engaging P2P fundraising tools are seamlessly integrated into our Giving Day platform and offer training videos for all participants.
