GiveGab Celebrates 6 Years of Living and Giving in Tompkins County
This year, GiveGab is celebrating its sixth anniversary being a part of the Tompkins County community – and we’ve loved every minute of living and giving here.
GiveGab was established in 2011 by Cornell MBA graduates who were on a mission to create more happy nonprofits. With the help and insight from the nonprofit community of Tompkins County, we have quickly grown into the best-selling digital solution for Giving Days and year-round fundraising for community foundations, nonprofits, and educational institutions of all sizes.
We now support over 100 Giving Days a year all over the country, and even in Australia!
Here are a few highlights over the last six years, including why we are so thankful and appreciative of our Tompkins County community!
Giving is Gorges
Giving is Gorges is one of GiveGab’s favorite events to host throughout the year. It is our own local Giving Day that takes place every June.
The first Giving is Gorges was held in 2015 with $117,998.29 collectively raised by participating organizations operating in Tompkins County. In 2019, we had a record-breaking year with an incredible $157,442.26 raised on the day. Read more about what made Giving is Gorges 2019 so special!
Watching the Tompkins County community come together for one day of philanthropy continues to be awe-inspiring! We can’t wait to see this day continue to grow to find new ways to engage the community in local giving.
Ithaca Kickball League
We bet you didn’t know that GiveGab has its own kickball team! We may have only won two games last season, but we have a great time playing. Come cheer us on next season!
Habitat for Humanity Women Build Weekend
One of our most popular team volunteering events is the Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties (TCHFH) Women Build Weekend in May! Learning new skills and giving back to a community that has given us so much is a win-win in our books.
Halloween in Downtown Ithaca
Working downtown has its perks – like being able to dress up for Halloween to hand out candy on the Commons, bringing awareness to local businesses, and having some fun! This year the GiveGab team dressed up as DoGs (Day of Giving) to show off what we are all about.
Rev
Rev, Ithaca’s own business incubator, has believed in us since Day 1 – and we couldn’t write a blog appreciating Tompkins County without them. We remain Rev members today, and our team frequents many of their amazing events.
Most recently, CEO Charlie Mulligan has served on a panel for a Rev networking event focused on “Startup Scaleup” and as a finalist mentor for the Grow-NY Food and Agriculture Business Competition.

Giving Day Leader’s Forum
Each July, we host our Giving Day partners from all over the country in Ithaca and invite them to enjoy all that Ithaca has to offer including hiking, gorges and waterfalls, and our many wineries and breweries! We love sharing our community with our partners, and they can see why we love living and giving here. Just look how big their smiles are from spending a few days in Tompkins County!
National Philanthropy Day
GiveGab was selected to win the Corporate Philanthropist of the Year award in 2015 from The Association of Fundraising Professionals. We continuously aim to live up to this honor each and every day as we continue to foster a spirit of philanthropy nation-wide!
