12 Key Times to Post for Your #GivingTuesday Messaging Plan
#GivingTuesday is going to be a ton of fun – and we want to make sure you don’t miss out on the action!
Follow our messaging plan below to engage your supporters on social media and encourage them to give back on this very special day of giving.
And always remember these two essential messaging rules:
1.) Make sure you always have a very clear, obvious, single call-to-action that links to your #GivingTuesday campaign. We recommend a large button centered at the bottom of your email or a bolded link. Whether it’s asking your supporters to share out your message or donate, make sure the supporter knows what you want them to do!
2.) Your first message may not bring in many, if any, donors. Most supporters don’t donate until the second or third ask, so don’t be discouraged if your messaging isn’t getting you very far at first.
12 Times to Post for #GivingTuesday
12AM – CELEBRATE!
Start your messaging as soon as #GivingTuesday starts! Send out a big celebratory message announcing your campaign (if today is kick-off) or reminding your supporters about #GivingTuesday (if you’re in the middle of your campaign). Make sure you use both email and social media, and always include a call to action (including a link!) to your campaign or donation page!
7AM – RISE AND SHINE
Wake up your supporters with a tweet letting them know how they can give back to your organization this #GivingTuesday. And don’t forget to use the hashtag, #GivingTuesday!
9AM – CATCH YOUR SUPPORTERS AT WORK
Send an email to your supporters reminding them that today is #GivingTuesday! They’re just showing up to work, opening up their email, and the first email they’ll see is your engaging and heartfelt ask for this very special Day of Giving. Catching them first thing in the morning before they’re distracted by 20 other things will encourage them to give!
10AM – COFFEE BREAK
Ask your friends, family, or coworkers to give up their daily cup of coffee and use the money they would have spent on it to give back to your organization! Or better yet, encourage them to make their own coffee and use the money they saved to give back!
11AM – GET SOCIAL
Get active on Social Media by promoting your #GivingTuesday campaign and making use of your favorite social media graphics from our free nonprofit resources. Whether it’s Facebook or Twitter, make sure you’re always using #GivingTuesday in your messaging!
12PM – HALFWAY TO VICTORY!
You’re halfway there! Share your progress with your supporters on Facebook or Twitter, encouraging them to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
2PM – STORYTIME
Your unique story is just as important as the amazing work your organization does. Get on Facebook and share your story, as well as why your friends and family should give to your organization this #GivingTuesday!
4PM – EVERYONE LOVES TO SHARE
Encourage those who have already donated to your organization to share their stories of why they care about your cause! Have them share their stories on Facebook so all their friends can see why your cause matters.
5PM – FOCUS ON FUNDRAISERS
Check-in with your Fundraising Champions! Keep them updated on the overall progress of the campaign and motivate them to reach their goal. Don’t be afraid to introduce a little friendly competition! A little competition never hurt anyone – and it will motivate everyone to want to beat each other’s totals, all for a good cause!
7PM – TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
Start counting down! With only five hours left until #GivingTuesday comes to an end, this is the perfect time to remind people that their time to donate is running out! They won’t want to miss an opportunity to be a part of the #GivingTuesday fun.
11PM – THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
Live tweet as you inch closer to your goal! Get people excited by talking about how close you are, thanking supporters in real-time, and motivating them to become a part of the fun and donate before the clock strikes midnight!
12AM – CELEBRATE, AND KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING!
You did it! You made it through #GivingTuesday and, hopefully, you’re already excited for next year’s festivities! If you’re running a month-long campaign, get some rest – and keep the momentum going the next day!
